Sending Unit Removal Tool or Pry Bar & Dead-Blow

Flathead screwdriver

Ratchet Wrench

Step 1

First, start by placing a jack under the factory fuel tank.

*Ensure that the jack point isn't directly under the sending unit as this will damage the sending unit.

Using a 16mm Deep Socket go ahead and remove the (2) factory hanger nuts.

*It is possible that the hanger stud(s) could come out of the mounting location. If this happens you'll just have to put a socket on the stud to re-attach it to the cross-brace of the frame.

Step 2

With the (2) 16mm nuts remove, go ahead and remove the (2) OEM mounting straps.

Then drop the tank a few inches to gain access to the sending unit wiring harness and fuel line connectors.

Step 3

To disconnect the wiring connector, go ahead and press down on the release tab on the top then pull the connector away.

Step 4a

Using a flathead or picktool, pull out the red tab. Then push down on the wiring connector to unlock it and disconnect it.

Step 4b

Remove the (2) red safety pins from the fuel line connectors using a flat head screwdriver or a pick tool.

Step 4c

On each fuel line connector there will be a button. Press down and then disconnect the connectors from the sending unit.

Step 5

Now, using a 7mm shallow socket go ahead and loosen the hose clamp on the vent line connected to the OEM tank.

*This will be located on the frame side of the OEM tank.

Step 6

Using a 7mm shallow socket, go ahead and disconnect the filler tube located on the rear end of the fuel tank, next to the frame.

Step 7

After disconnecting the filler hose, go ahead and disconnect the rollover valve hose on the top rear of the tank.

Step 8

Before you fully drop the tank, go ahead and unclip the DEF lines bracket.

Step 9

Using a 7mm shallow socket, go ahead and remove the fill tube and vent tube from the vehicle.

Step 10

Using a Sending Unit Removal Tool or a Dead-Blow and Pry-Bar to unlock the factory locking ring.

Once unlocked, remove the sending unit from the tank and throw away the factory green O-Ring as we give you a brand new one..

Step 11

Install the included O-Ring onto the S&B Fuel Tank, then drop the Sending Unit into position.

Once done, take the included S&B Locking Ring and lock it into place.

*Ensure the receiving tabs (red arrow) of the fuel tank retain the locking ring tabs (green arrow).

Step 12

Transfer the OEM Filler Tube from the OEM Tank to the S&B Fuel Tank. Then using a 7mm shallow socket, go ahead and secure it.

*Keep the tube orientation identical to that of the factory alignment.

Step 13

Take the provided vent hose and connect it onto the factory location using a 7mm shallow socket.

*The location of the factory vent tube is the same as in Step 9.

Step 14

Now it's time to install the S&B Fuel Tank with the Filler Tube routed over the frame rail.

The front breather vent line will need to be routed over the cross-member.

*Important: On 2025+ Model Year trucks, this fuel tank will rest on the DEF tank skid plate.

Step 15

Now it's time to install the frame mounted hook.

Install the U-Bolt on top of the frame rail, ensuring that the spacer on the upper-corner of the U-Bolt is on the tank side of the frame-rail. This provide adequate spacing for fuel lines running along the inner frame rail.

Step 16

Reconnect the (2) fuel lines and electrical connector to the sending unit.

Once the (3) connectors are installed, please reinstall the (2) red safety pins on the fuel connectors and push in the red safety pin on the electrical connector.

Step 17

Now it's time to measure and cut the vent tube. We recommend adding on another 1/4" of vent tube length.

Once cute to size, go ahead and tighten down the provided hose clamp using a 7mm socket.

Step 18

Now remove the OEM rollover valve from the vehicle. This is located behind the driver side rear fender next to the filler neck.

Step 19a

Install the rear bracket by mounting the tab portion of the hangar in the factory cradle on the inner frame rail.

Step 19b

Then using the OEM 16mm nut and 16mm deep socket, go ahead and tighten down the bracket.

Step 21

Now do the same thing for the middle bracket. Once its in the cradle go ahead and run the other side of the bracket to the mounting point. Then tighten down the OEM 16mm nut with a 16mm deep socket.

Step 22

Using a 19mm deep socket, please install the front hook to the U-bolt on the frame (from Step 15).

Step 23

Using a 7mm socket, please attach the Filler Tube to the Filler Neck. Then go ahead and run the rear and front Rollover Vent Line up and over the frame rail and then zip-tie it to the filler neck (as seen with the white zip-tie).

Step 24

Ensure all connection points and brackets are tight. Your installation is now complete.
